Just a warning - all police forces across the UK are targeting non standard number plates from 28/1/08 for about a month. If you have incorrect letters, spacing, etc etc you could be in trouble. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Reading the article it says "Illegal alterations rangefrom changes to the layout of plates or use of non-standard fonts, through the use of tape, screws, and other objects to obscure plates, to sophisticated measures such as the use of stolen or false number plates to clone vehicles"

Well if you get caught having your number plate spaced incorrectly (JayMann) by the police you get a fine and there is a new form that you have to sign to say that you have been warned.

after being involved in a hit and run and being unable to read the number plate correctly due to the thin numbers/letters and close spaceing, and the being largely out of pocket due to repairs ,you may change your minds and no it was not a boy racer in his little saxo

To be honest, little things like illegal plates really annoy me. They don't look cool, they shout w r to me. Almost as much as having fog lights on when it's not foggy! I agree with bungee, good on them! It may just be a money maker but these people are breaking the law, and should be dealt with.

Very interesting. What do you guys mean, incorrect spacing and thin fonts? Who prints license plates in the UK, Kinkos? Seriously though, here in the US plates are printed by each state's respective Dept of Motor Vehicles, so they all use pretty much the same fonts and spacing, whether you pay for a personalized plate or not. Unless you use masking tape or a smoked lens in front of the plate, the best you can hope for is a plate with lots of 1s and Is to confuse the traffic cameras... |
