Dodgy Number Plates

Just a warning - all police forces across the UK are targeting non standard number plates from 28/1/08 for about a month. If you have incorrect letters, spacing, etc etc you could be in trouble. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

It easy money for them.
If I were younger I would be leaving this country as it seems to have lost the plot somewhere.
With so many other things to concentrate on and constantly winging on about lack of resources why on earth are the Police wasting time like this.

They are also alienating the public.

I hope they dont get their pay settlement now!!

its only a week long campaign.

I do agree that any plate that is not detectable by camera or congestion zone detectors should be pulled but not if its only spacing.

Not that I agree with cameras or congestion charging.

Reading the article it says "Illegal alterations rangefrom changes to the layout of plates or use of non-standard fonts, through the use of tape, screws, and other objects to obscure plates, to sophisticated measures such as the use of stolen or false number plates to clone vehicles"

How will they know if the plate is a clone?
These look like normal correctly spelt and spaced plates. They are on the correct model and colour car. Does that mean every car will be stopped so that the chassis number can be matched.

No of course not its a money making exersize.

Well if you get caught having your number plate spaced incorrectly (JayMann) by the police you get a fine and there is a new form that you have to sign to say that you have been warned.

If by any chance you get caught again and the plate hasn't been changed you will loose all rights to that plate and your car will then only be registered on a Q plate. so please be careful guy's imagine a 60k Range Rover on a Q plate. They also say that you even have to have the suppliers tel no and postcode on the plate.

I also think if that happens it will always have to stay on a Q plate. you have been warned.

Tough life being a copper having to tell people that.

They have to work from 08:30am to 4pm and any extra hours they do they only get paid overtime for or get time off in Lu. Then they get the best non cotributory pension there is and can view everyone as a criminal!

it wont be long before the Traffic Officers on the motorway have powers to do us for holding a mobile, eating whilst driving etc.

good on them

after being involved in a hit and run and being unable to read the number plate correctly due to the thin numbers/letters and close spaceing, and the being largely out of pocket due to repairs Big Cry ,you may change your minds Shocked and no it was not a boy racer in his little saxo
i would also be interested to find out how many off the cars stopped for incorrect number plates are also untaxed unisured etc
just my 2p,s worth

To be honest, little things like illegal plates really annoy me. They don't look cool, they shout w Censored r to me. Almost as much as having fog lights on when it's not foggy! I agree with bungee, good on them! It may just be a money maker but these people are breaking the law, and should be dealt with.

Very interesting. What do you guys mean, incorrect spacing and thin fonts? Who prints license plates in the UK, Kinkos? Laughing Seriously though, here in the US plates are printed by each state's respective Dept of Motor Vehicles, so they all use pretty much the same fonts and spacing, whether you pay for a personalized plate or not. Unless you use masking tape or a smoked lens in front of the plate, the best you can hope for is a plate with lots of 1s and Is to confuse the traffic cameras...
