Ireland 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
Decisions on New tyres

Time to replace 4 conti,

reading through the various posts I'm still a little confused

Questions

(a) I have a HSE TDV8 with factory 20" stormers, can I fit 295 40 instead of 275 40

(b) Whats the views on alternatives to the Conti's ( I dont need M+S), there seems to be a consus on Pirelli scorpions or what about the Hankook RH06 ( would you be worried it only comes in W varient)

Thanks listess RRS HSE TDV8 Java black/Ebony interior, mud flaps,20" stormers, towing, roofrack, sunroof, cooler V8 Tasmods Sills, black badges, carstyling java black vents

Not sure how the 295 / 40’s will work, but all I can say, besed on personal experience, is that 295/45 Pirelli’s do not work with OEM LR Stormers !!!

As I found out, they give no clearance at all.........

I tried them for a day, but then took them off & found evidence of rubbing on the tyres Shocked

It seems that there is no problems with 295/40’s on copy Stormers as the offset is greater than then OEM rims. So my advice is to be careful & choose wisely

rupert , I read your trials and tribulations re extra width. There does seem to be some issue that the 20" stormers with teh brembo brakes have extra width , any comments RRS HSE TDV8 Java black/Ebony interior, mud flaps,20" stormers, towing, roofrack, sunroof, cooler V8 Tasmods Sills, black badges, carstyling java black vents

Do you find that with the 20 inch stormers, the speedo is inacurate? It reads different to my road angel speed display which is supposed to be correct. I assume this is something to do with the fact that the V6 diesel was not designed to have the 20 inch wheels as standard???

Not sure about the Brembo equipped RRS’s have a great offset, but it is something that could be possible.

I do recall though when I was having my issues, the service manager at the dealer checked to see if the TDV8 had any different suspension set ups to the TDV6 & he could find no differences at all. But that’s not to say that the Brembo calliper / hub set up doesn’t have a greater offset. As it was suspension geometry we were looking at.

Good Point though Thumbs Up

Can’t say I found any difference in the speedo readings, when I was running the Stormers. But I didn’t have anything to check it against such as a Road Angel or the like.

When I use an online tyre size calculator, to compare the stock 18” to the 20” Stormer set up, it tells me that the speedo will read 1.3% too fast, translating to an indicated speed of 60MPh being an actual speed of 59.2 MPh

A difference I can certainly live with, particularly when it’s erring on the too fast side.

The rolling radius of the wheel/tyre remains fairly constant between all the wheel options available from LR so this isn't much of an issue. The speedo will never be as accurate as your GPS anyway Very Happy

There shouldn't be an real difference as the diameter of the wheel with tyres on is virtually the same. This Road Angel difference has been noted before. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
