Brownie, i think the biggest rip off is the way the oil companies can put the prices up before the weekend and holidays. I filled the car up today at a Shell garage and it was about 1.49 a litre. In the UK the govt tax it to death hence why diesel is usually about 2.5 dollars per litre, here its just seems the oil companies have a licence to rob you blind. Hi Jim, the answer from the oil companies is "That's just market forces in action. Anyway the general public know when the prices rise and fall, and buy accordingly!" What an answer, it's totally b t.

Brownie, the price of diesel is really set by the supply and demand for the product in Asia. It is not directly related to the cost of production. Also, you will find that diesel is normally (mostly, generally etc) more expensive in the summer months when world demand is high (driven by the northern hemisphere).

Thanks StephenW, you seem to have more knowledge about the subject than most, but still feel very ripped off when at the bowser.
