Engine Fault Light On

Hi - Apart from the obvious answer "take it to a dealer" which I am shortly about to do - is there any way to reset the light on a RRS S/C - or at read the "diagnostic trouble code" ?

Mine has the little orange engine light on but no other symptoms. I suspect it may be linked to the O2 sensor issues reported on here but is there any way I can find out before it heads in to the dealership?

You may already have done this but:_
Page 99 of the manual says that for petrol engines "Check Engine - Amber, acts as a bulb and sytem check when the starter switch turned on and extinguishes as soon as the engine is started. Illunimation at any other time indicates an engine fault. If the indicator illuminates continuously while driving, the emission performance of the engine management system is impaired - seek qualified assistance. If the indicator flashes while driving immediately reduce the engine power to avoid catalytic converter damage."

Do you also get a small "i" in the info display? If so then scroll the display to see what is there and then go to P86-95 of the manual for more info.

I think you've got the message already about the dealer! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks for that - I had read the manual hence not "too" concerned about the cause, the light doesn't flash and there is no loss of power and the vehicle doesn't go into "limp home mode". I'm pretty sure there isn't an "i" but I'll go and and have another look to make sure!

I've just called my dealer who said drop it in tomorrow! - I was expecting them to be booked up for at least a week.

I'll post their answer when I get it back Thursday / Friday

Actually a mate of mine's Golf has been reporting engine mgt troubles and the dealer won't actually give it back until it's sorted... seems they view the problem as dangerous.

All done, the culprit being a Lambda sensor apparently.

Glad to hear you car is now sensing all it's lambdas Wink

Seriously - glad it all got sorted. Dodgy O2 sensors used to be a continuing problem on the E46 M3 too, if I remember.

Maybe it was making the engine run too rich and therefore explains the 14mpg I've been getting? Wink ... Or then again maybe that's just down to the readings from the throttle position sensor ...

Thats right S they were
Also 90% of other vehicle MIL lights on are the 02 sensor
Problem is their dirty environment doesn't help. If they could be stripped and cleaned it would save an immense amonut of warranty costs.

Mind you the Japanese are more reliable at it (what a surprise) Smile You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.
