Can you hear it trying to eject repeatedly until it gives up? If so, pop the facia trim off and it will probably pop out. The top of my facia had bent inwards (not enough to be visible) and stopped it coming out. Submersing in Boiling water and a wedge bent it back enough so it doesn’t do it now.

Welcome to the forum mate, as for your question, I guess for most people it comes down to the mileage you expect to cover. Petrol is obviously more expensive to run but “appears” to be cheaper in maintenance. I’ve had my 2012 5.0 for 12 months and I’ve replaced the from ARB pipes and rear brake lines which cost £450. The service was cheaper by a long shot over the diesal. Fun factor isn’t quite to my M3 standard but the engine noise more than makes up for it, especially seeing as 70mph is the fastest I can drive.
