Upgrading to either 12.3" or 13.3" screen

I've currently got a 2017 Sport with the 10.5" screen at the moment with the curved bottom corners. I've bought the non CD updated AC panel for the lower section and now looking at the options for the main screen itself.

I've noticed the two sizes above and see the 12.3 is the maximum OEM style look and the 13.3 over hangs and blocks both top vents and a portion of the top of the new AC buttons. In some pictures it does and doesn't so much but there's no adjustment on the screens.

I like airflow onto my face so with the 13 blocking I'm leaning to the oem. Aside from this any other differences, many people upgraded? I noticed many people saying need to wire into oem GPS wire etc but could see many complete DIY for the L494, I have the Harman style.

Thanks for your input guys!

Hi Purvesh have you got photos of the 12.3?
All I’ve seen are 13’s which I’ve been looking at for a while, weighing up OEM size, inset larger or the full Tesla style. As with TV’s decided bigger is better but currently won’t be changing the AC panel. I’ve got the turned steel effect console which I like, much like the steering wheel buttons I’m not going to facelift.
In terms of obscuring the vents I’ll attach a shot where you can see they’re ‘only’ partially obscured, mine don’t provide any large amount to my face at regular non hectic fan speeds, wearing contacts it isn’t desirable straight into the eyes anyway. Looks like you’d get plenty of blow by to still be effective and the benefits of the larger screen for navigation (often find on the oem it’s rather squashed with split screen maps) or streaming video on the occasions I’m loitering in the car. Looks fairly OEM to my eyes not desirable to have to it all floating but that’s JLR’s offering, finessing that screen into the dash would need a total dash and centre console re-design so you can see why they’ve done it

Looks good a very like the latest Pivi offerings. Doesn’t look like it would restriction much airflow and it might be good to get some cool air on the back of the device anyway.

This is the 12.3" screen. In your pic it hangs quite low as as I've gone for the non CD AC unit the screen is larger to the top is slightly covered.

What's your audio output like I keep seeing that the screen uses different outputs depending on whether it's using the cars original interface versus Android etc

Also have you used the original GPS or the GPS that comes with it?

I really like the 12.3” integrated appearance it’s very trick but more costly with the new trim panel it requires from research I saw. Still tempted with the 13” jobbie. I’ve had an early Xmas present so able to purchase in the next few days. Last minute research is called for before placing an order. No idea I’m afraid at the moment on GPS or Audio.
I need to determine if I’ve got Bosch or harman, due to clock placement to the right believe it’s Bosch, if this isn’t correct someone please shout out before I commit!

Falling at the 1st hurdle! Can’t even get the silver trim strips off either side of the centre console. The leading edge unclips but there’s no obvious direction it wants to go, a lot of resistance and nothing else is giving way. Used the dodo bars too don’t want to snap anything

Awesome 🤣that explains it I started with the L405 process ripping them off from the front no wonder there’s no give. I’ve watched that clip months ago and forgotten all the key content for sequencing. Back on the right path now 👍

Right….straight into another stumbling block which should be a piece of cake. What’s the technique to tease off the 4 central coloured connectors? Fluked one off but after studying it can repeat the feat. From the YouTube clips the guys detach in seconds but I’m not having the same luck.
The blue was super easy with a tab, orange optical plugs giving me grief too.
And don’t have a connector at all in the white socket (top right corner), but the FFRR in the clip does, what’s it do?

Right after a few trials and tribulations and significant assistance from a thoroughly good egg on here she’s in. What an absolute result it’s such a great upgrade transforms the interior removing the biggest tech weakness and moving it bang up to date.

Cheers it’s early days learning to navigate android and all the functionality this thing brings. Screen resolution is absolutely ridiculous to the extent contemplating a reverse camera upgrade (in a separate post). Waiting in the car not a chore anymore with a myriad of apps to stream
