So tonight I pulled the car off drive to turn it around so I could wash it. All good until I tried to start it after I washed it. Loads of clicking, warning lights everywhere with bongs and says battery low. I have tried jump starting but no joy. I can’t imagine anything getting wet anywhere in the electrics as I’ve washed the car loads of times with no issues. Has the battery given up the ghost or something more sinister. Got it plugged into the CTEC charger now and crossing my fingers. Need to move car as I can’t get the van off the drive as it’s in the way. Any advice would be great

I'd guess a battery on its last legs unless you know it's a recent good one. Hopefully the CTEK can get enough in to it to allow an engine start. At the minimum, expect to need a new battery. But rather needs the voltages checking to see if it might be a tired alternator. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thanks for your reply. The battery is the original one and the car is 2015 year. Started perfect when I moved the car but now nothing. The CTEC is on 3 lights and I have it on AGM and recondition mode so fingers crossed that I can get it started. Unfortunately it has been on the 3 lights for around 3 hours now. I’ll leave it all night and see what happens. Will the recovery company be able to get it started if the battery is kaput?

If this is a battery problem will it be the main starter battery that’s at fault or could it be the smaller leisure battery thing that assists with stop start etc?

I think AA sell batteries. So that maybe an option

I’m with green flag so if they can sell me one that would be great. Gunna get up at 6 to see if the car starts then call them if not……..

So I got up this morning and the CTEC charger had 4 lights on. According to the instructions when it gets to 4 lights the car should start. Pressed the start button and hey presto she fired up. The ca is now in my garage and on charge. New battery required now me thinks. Any recommendations? Does the new battery need coding to the car? I’m pretty confident I can do this job myself but not the coding bit as I have nothing to code it with. To say I’m relieved is an understatement even though I’m probably going to work today just to pay for the new battery. Thanks for all the replies.👍

No, you just remove the old, put in the new, program the radio stations again. Regards etc.,

Seven years out of a battery is pretty good going & these cars need a good battery. It owes you nothing so replace it.

Mine was getting a bit tired so, with winter looming time for a new one so started shopping around.
Car does not have stop/start (thank goodness) but I decided on a Yuasa & shopped around, tried the usual suspects like KwikFart, Formula Once, National Tyres, a few independants and the local motor factors - prices for the same battery all over the place like a cheap suit.

Then, for a laugh really, I tried Halfrauds Mobile "on the drive" - best price by far, turned up on time, job done. 2006 RRS 2.7 HSE.

This is incorrect. The BMS should be reset, as it does affect the smart charge system, and subsequently charge rates etc

If you don't reset it, you will likely not notice any issues, but there is a lot that goes on in the background with these cars

I’ve had the CTEC charger plugged in all day now and all the lights or on including the green battery ok light. I thought these chargers go through a sequence and check if the battery is faulty and if so doesn’t pass the 5th light test and goes red. Does this mean my battery is ok?

The BMS accounts for battery wear over time. Not resetting it will make it think it’s still charging an old dying battery rather than a new one at full capacity. So you get less charge and less battery life.

Born and raised in So Cal. Moved to the UK in 2018 for a few years. Now in Poland and looking at moving back to the UK.

Ok so been having a play with the car tonight and even though the CTEC charger says all is fine and dandy it obviously isn’t. When I unlock the car and open the door there is a big warning on the dash saying battery low please start engine. The car will actually start and all warning lights go off. I can’t risk going out in it unless it’s to get the battery checked and replaced if required. I may even get a company like AA or Halfords out to replace the battery as the prices seem ok(around £300 fitted)l I’ll keep the forum updated with what I do.👍

It maybe because you connected the charger directly to the battery, rather than the neg lead to chassis.

Computer thinks it’s low.

Just fit the battery yourself.
Or maybe the battery is ok if the car has had little use and that is what the ctek is for
