Audio issue - Static on every output

Hi Guys,

Had a strange issue yesterday, started my rrs to drive home, I then went to use the phone and was presented with static from the speakers. I tried every audio output, radio FM & DAB, CD and AUX via an apple nano, all the outputs were the same, static.

Using music via the radio or nano, I coud hear some of the music tone changes but again this was just a different tone of static.

All outputs were working on the drive to the office in the morning.

I have just tried it today and all is working as it should be, weird.

I had total silence from the audio system a few months ago, just once and again leaving it for a few hours it started working properly.

There are no errors codes.

Could this be an earthing issue ?

Many thanks

Check the amp under the passenger seat, easy to unbolt 4 bolts lift seat out, can keep the seat belt attached theres enough slack on it.

Check for any grounding/connection issues and also water ingress, if you have a pano roof you could have the old leaking sunroof drains that then runs down the rear passenger door apature and into the footwell under the front seats. Can cause the amp to blow etc.

Right, I've checked all the connectors on the back of the amp and also the earth connectors behind the kick panel, again all of them are clean.

I'm a little stumped as to why the issue occurred, the audio has been fine since.

Is it just the quirkiness of a Range Rover Laughing

Many thanks

I have the same issue, does the touch screen grey out some of the audio selctions when the static is happening?

I changed the amp and no luck, is the ground cable on the passengers side?

Hi There,

I was the lead engineer for the head unit in this vehicle. This looks like a MOST issue to me, especially the greyed out HLDF. When the infotainment system is booted, all MOST notes (ECU's) report their status to the MOST master, the head unit (IHU). If a MOST node does not respond the feature is disabled (greyed out). Usually this is due to a MOST connector/MOST optical cable being kinked. The one behind the HLDF is susceptible to kinking...

For the crackling, I would suggest that a MOST connector is either loose or kinked, mainly to the amp (Harman Kardon) under the drivers seat, but they are all on the same fiber optic network so you may need to check the MOST connectors on all the other nodes.

I hope this helps.
