I think Mercedes were one of the first to switch to the floating screen design across their range of cars and the reasoning behind it was it meant that during a refresh, if they needed to upgrade the screen, it was a lot easier (cheaper) to simply swap out a floating screen and keep the dash design the same rather than create (and retool) a brand new dashboard each time. I dont think the design looks awful in the new Range Rover, but its not amazing either. |

Makes it easy to have optional screen sizes without having to have different dash mouldings. Just fit the different size screen in front of the same dash. Money saved. Kerching! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |
