I think Mercedes were one of the first to switch to the floating screen design across their range of cars and the reasoning behind it was it meant that during a refresh, if they needed to upgrade the screen, it was a lot easier (cheaper) to simply swap out a floating screen and keep the dash design the same rather than create (and retool) a brand new dashboard each time. I dont think the design looks awful in the new Range Rover, but its not amazing either. |

Makes it easy to have optional screen sizes without having to have different dash mouldings. Just fit the different size screen in front of the same dash. Money saved. Kerching! ![]() 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |
