Fitting Heated Wheel to 2013 L320....

Hi All.

First post here, so Hello Smile

I have a 2013 L320 RRS, which has on it everything I wanted bar the heated steering wheel. I purchased a heated wheel from a 2012 D4 and fitted it today, but on doing so the car throws numerous faults to do with "Steering Wheel Control Module" and says "Gear Paddles Disabled" on the dashboard. ECM also throws a DTC for invalid signal from speed control module, and cruise buttons don't work either. The only things that work on the wheel are radio and menu buttons each side.

Does anybody have any experiance with this? Given its a 2013 last of the L320's I expected this to be plug and play. The power feed wiring for the heated wheel was already there.

Second I re-fit my non-heated wheel (even leaving the new squib fitted) all works perfectly and fault codes clear down.

Cheers - Rob

I was of the impression that you need a new clock spring for the heated wheel and it needs enabling with an IID tool to make it work. May be wrong of course.

Op does mention new squib which I assume is the clock spring, you wouldn't be able to actualy plug the heated steering wheel in if it was the non heated clock spring as there is no socket for the plug.

Yes, clock spring (squib) has the heated connection.

The issue is more that it goes ape with faults for the steering wheel control module when the wheel is fitted. Aside from the heating function not working, fitting the heated wheel (purchased as a complete unit, switchpacks the lot from another car) causes it to fault both gear shift paddles, the steering wheel control module comms and comms with cruise control.

The new 'heated' clock spring (squib) isn't the problem, as if i fit my old non-heated wheel but leave the new clock spring in place, normality is restore, all the faults clear down, cruise works again, gear shift paddles work (etc).

I've not edited the CCF to enable heating with IID Tool, but if that was the only problem, surely everything else would still work, bar the heating? As it stands it has a meltdown!

I wouldn't know if it would make any difference or what the difference may be although they were a slightly different colour or at least on the early one, but the part numbers for the switch packs on the D4 are different to the Sport.

I had the issue when I brought a 2012 wheel and switch packs from a Discovery 4, enabled ccf but couldn’t get any of the switch packs to work properly. I threw in the towel in the end and brought a new heated wheel and switch pack from Duckworths Land Rover using my chassis number, and when i fitted it there were no issues and everything worked correctly Thumbs Up 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black
