My understanding is that it doesn't matter how old your car is the VED band will depend on it's CO2 emissions, but cars built before 2001 have a reduced tax banding.

I would imagine that your wife's E320 will fall into the same banding as an RRS, bigger engine, more emissions! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Only getting an error message - there seems to be very little "in depth" info on VED anywhere on the web, I have searched through Google but there isn't much there. Only thing i can find is that the £300 VED is applicable immediately and that next year it goes up to £400 but it doesn't say for new cars only anywhere. I'll take a look at some of the motoring mags websites and see what they say.

Here's what Autocar has to say (precious little!) www.autocarmag.com/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/224900/

What Car? Mentions the 2006 and it would appear that the £300/£400 DOES only apply to cars registered after 23 March 2006 see here www.whatcar.co.uk/news-article.aspx?NA=224982 There's also a nice piccie of an RRS on the same page! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Looks like it will better to keep a car registered before March 2006 then - as you say mad that he hasn't penalised older cars which tend to be less well maintained and less efficient........................ although my 1996 Defender is very clean and non polluting (mainly becuase it hardly does any miles in a year!) 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Surely it would of made more sense to add the extra tax to older vehicles instead, that way encouraging people to buy new motors, getting rid of old ones, which are going to churn out more CO than new ones,

Agreed, but maybe there is method to the madness. The CO2 released by building a car in the 1st place is significant. So if we tax the older cars into being sold / scrapped etc, we just create demand for new ones. I'm feeling green buying a second hand SC! Whistle 2022 P440e AB

The best thing to do is ABOLISH road tax completely and put it straight on fuel. How hard is that to see.

Sorry, you're making too much sense Baron.

Yup - but that hits the "hoi polloi", those that have little cash and have to drive miles to work. Salesman and truckers (who'll shut the country's roads down again) will go mad too. So, we fart about with Censored "green" taxes from GB. We need to fix pollution from big business, power stations and homes first.

Oh, and actually spend green taxes pounds on something green.

I get my electricity from Ecotricity. All from wind farms. Same price as i was paying Scottish Hydro. V happy. 2022 P440e AB

It's been replaced by a very similar shade called Lucerne Green, from the small sample plate I saw at the dealership last week there isn't a lot of difference between the two but doubtless when you see 2 cars parked side by side there will be a noticeable difference between them! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
