I think if I were in your position, once the car is returned to you, I would immediately take it to a trusted LR specialist for a check over to make sure the installations has been carried out correctly and the new engine is healthy. It might cost you a couple of hundred, but gives you peace of mind. MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

Well if they dont change the belts etc, and you have 3 months warranty then for the 3 months i would drive it like you stole to put it under some reel stress (within the law of course Whistle ) any thing at all that sounds slighty off, bounce it back under warranty, untill your happy.

Lot of negative posts there to cause you some worry. If I was the dealer, after all the bother you have had & cost & time to them, they don't want the car coming back after fitting the new engine. I am sure they will do a good job. It's not worth their reputation to do shoddy work & its just as easy to do a good job as a bad one. It's typical forum posts, every garage is Censored & they are all out to screw you. I don't see why you need to take it elsewhere to check its been fitted properly, what's to see unless they are going to do compression tests, borescope, see if the oil was changed, drop the sump etc. Yes get that done but it will be more than a couple of hundred pounds. Anyone buying a second hand car, how do you know how the engine was treated, even one with a prefect MOT history (the old chestnut of the old lady who drove around everywhere in first gear as she didn't want to go very fast) but was always serviced on the button
Its got a warranty, they don't want to see it again Thumbs Up

Lindab the reason for the more hostile posts are the garage only offered £500 for the engine failure and saying not covered by the warranty, it was only when the finance company stepped in that they agreed to do anything (maybe because it would cause them a bigger issues long term with finance companys), so i would think they are going to do it cheap as possible to cover the true cost (if they slap an engine that lasts more than 3 months they are covered), if they wanted a good reputation they would have put it right first time or offered a refund, not being forced to do the work. Just my opion.

Car drives fine changing through gears smoothly etc
Check oil when cold and says oil overfill but after being used and leaving it for 20mins i check again and says oil level max and ok
I get a oil burning smell occasionally and assume its because engine has just been fitted ?
Although today had some very faint oil smoke from bonnet area - not a fire - could this be a breather pipe ?
Will be contacting garage tomorrow

It’s not right if it says overfill, it’s either too much or a dodgy sensor, make sure you report it in wring (e mail or letter) so it’s recorded. Joined the X5 45e club

No no no. You need CA to send you a draught letter that you put your details in and faults with the vehicle. Then send it to the dealer via signed for post.
By law they have to attempt to repair it first. If that is not satisfactory then refund.
In this instance I would imagine they will just refund and the vehicle will be written off. I've been there and done it so I know.
I also have a close friend who is a car dealer and he is the one who told me what to do.
Ignore all that as I've just seen that you have it back..
