Hi there

One of my Xenon dipped headlights is not working so I assumed the bulb. I went to Halfords and got a D2S bulb, came home, took the grill off, took both sets of lights out and followed youtube to take off cap, remove ignitor and replace bulb. All good, until I put them back on. Lights still dont work with new bulb. I swapped the ignitors round and still same issue, so I am thinking an issue with the controller? Any thoughts?

Humm. You could swap the left and right lights to be sure it isn’t a power supply problem.
Or it could be a Duff bulb from halfords.

Loosly plug one of the non working bulbs into the rear of the working headlight and see if you have 3 good bulbs

Good thinking! I swapped the units around and the power to both is good. Also cycled through all 3 bulbs and they are all good. Both igniters work. So by a process of elimination it’s pointing to a bad controller or whatever this box of tricks is.... unless some dodgy connections within the light unit. Thanks for your help so far ... I don’t really want to unscrew both of these boxes yet as I may end up with no lights if it goes wrong .... 2007 RRS 2.7 HSE (Current)

I thought this might be some kind of controller but it's a headlight ballast... might be same thing

I'm pretty sure this is the cause of the issue and I'll swap them both round tomorrow to make sure that it really is and I'll probably get a replacement here:

Replaced a few of them lately. Easy enough to swap over for testing purposes

You can sometimes get half broken lights off eBay and take if the part you need

Yes, only 3 screws to remove the ballasts. I swapped them round and got the other light working. So now I know I need a new ballast. I now know a lot more about Xenon lights than I did this morning, I thought it was just a simple bulb replacement. This is all easy when you know how!  2007 RRS 2.7 HSE (Current)

You need to put the headlight in the oven briefly to remove the glue.
Make sure they fit!

Hi Kev, no I didn't mate. The vid I watched suggested an array of treatments but he favoured a clear film you can buy. He also used a clear acrylic lacquer. Hope that helps, think he was mexican or something, real pro.
