No Harmond Kardon Logic 7 On RRS Autobiography 2012

I recently purchased a 2012 RRS. It is an Autobiography and that should come with Harmon Kardon 7 system? I was looking for audio settings as I read on here that you can turn that off for just stereo and its a much better sound for music, so I wanted to do that. However, Where other screenshots show an option for HK7 on/off I dont have that in my car, but all the 2012 Autobiographies came with it?? It has all the speakers and sub woofer and everything..

Any ideas why its not there? Are there system updates that can be done on this perhaps?

Firstly are you sure it is a genuine A/B as there are a lot of look a likes out there, I have not seen anywhere in the audio setting on mine to turn the Logic 7 off but to be fair have not looked as makes no sense to me to turn it off. Also has the front door speakers got the Logic 7 logo on them as they should have.

Out of curiosity have just had a look at mine, and yes there is a setting on screen to turn the logic7 surround sound off and back to just stereo but it sounded terrible just stereo. Will add picture of screen later.

Thanks for the info. It is very interesting. I don’t think the speakers do have ‘logic7’ written on them but there is a sub in there.

It was advertised as autobiography and it has everything else I think (the fridge thing, the adaptive cruise, and most other things I can think of that only autobiography had). Also, when you put the number plate into searches for things it comes up as autobiography.

This is why I am so confused because why wouldn’t it have the logic7?

The reason I was looking to turn it off is that I find the mid and lower end a bit underwhelming and I have read that turning it back to stereo is actually better for music as it isn’t trying to decode a stereo source in surround sound.

My Autobiography has A/B on the log book as well, it also has Autobiography Sport embossed on the headrests along with it on the door card trims as well. Odd why anyone would spec. it without the Logic7 that's if you even could.

Yeah this is my thinking. I can’t work out why or how it could be this way. That being said I don’t think it has ‘autobiography’ on the seats. I need to double check those bits now.

My only thought is if at some point the AV unit had some sort of factory reset and lost the logic7 stuff? Or, like you say, it just doesn’t have it and therefore why wouldn’t it? They wouldn’t make it without it as came as standard.

I am so confused and although I love the car I ask feel I have been done over by the dealer as well as it doesn’t have the listed spec. Quality audio system was a big part of me wanting the autobiography.

Have you registered with L/R's Topix? it's free to register and if you input your Vin. number it should show you the build spec on your car, although these are not always 100% accurate but would think it would confirm if it is a A/B or not.

Vin No. will be in the log book, or to the left on tag fixed to front slam panel under the bonnet, if you really wanted to look it's also stamped on chassis below drivers door, Laughing Just remember you can pull it up in the service menu setting on the dash as well.

Perfect thanks.

The more I think about it now the more I think this is just an HSE. I did a couple of number plate lookups and one came up autobiography but others came up hse.

There also is no timed climate options, but I thought that was because some don’t have it activated (from what I have been reading). It does have the fridge and other upgrades that made me think it was ok, and of course you assume the advert is correct on autotrader etc.

Now I am stuck. I love this car but some of the things I wanted (like good audio) are not in it. I’m inside 30 days so might consider giving it back to the dealer. Damn! This sucks.

Thanks for your help though

I am not a solicitor but if it was advertised as a Autobiography and you bought in good faith on that basis I would certainly go back to the dealer, if it is not what was advertised then surely that could be classed as false advertising and consumer rights may come into effect.

Yeah. Luckily my brother works in car sales and you get 30 days under the consumer credit regulations or something and if they don’t agree you go to the ombudsman and they are very tough on dealers.

They wouldn’t have a leg to stand on in this instance.

I also have door locks that need replacing that I am in conversation with them about. If it was just that we would work it out but with everything on this, it might just be too much and needs to go back.

I think initially you need to confirm whether it is actualy a genuine A/B or not, then go from there. Don't know if it helps at all but this is what is shown on my V5 the "A" on the end I believe refers to automatic.

It definitely isn’t unfortunately. I checked. It’s an HSE but my order form with the garage says autobiography.

If you like it, tell them to knock £5000 off and you’ll keep it and then upgrade the stereo yourself if you want it. I prefer the L7 to stereo every time. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Yeah, well they offered me 1k and I said that wouldn’t even cover a stereo upgrade, so no thanks.

Yeah, I I think just having an active sub and a better amp will be a marked improvement. I will be interested to hear what the surround setting does. Historically I haven’t liked what it does to music but every system is different.
