I know that the China JLR recall is now "old news" but just wondered if anyone has seen any update on the 68,828 cars that were recalled starting in April 2019? How many engines were replaced I wonder?

As a supplementary question, I wonder how JLR went about "checking" the recalled cars without stripping the engines to check the crank and bearings for abnormal wear? If JLR has developed a procedure to detect engines which may be susceptible to early bearing and crank failure, could this not be done as part of the next service on all UK vehicles which have the affected engines?

I am not a mechanic, either amateur or professional, but I would be interested to understand how JLR physically checked the recalled vehicles for abnormal bearing and crank wear Thumbs Up

If it only take about a hour they are no doing a lot.

Q 3-3. How long does it take to diagnose faults and replace the engine?
Except for waiting time, it usually takes about 1 hour for fault diagnosis and about 3 days for engine replacement.
Free bills are available during the engine replacement period, and a free consignment service is available for fault diagnosis and engine replacement.

Thanks Col,

I knew that you would have the answer Thumbs Up

Just seen your earlier post and copied it below for others to see in this thread. Great minds think alike Very Happy

The part I don't really understand is, they will do a fault diagnosis to determine if engine requires replacement fair enough, they also say the diagnosis will take about an hour, again fair enough, but there is no way they can remove the sump to check the crankshaft and bearings and refit in a hour, so if it only takes a hour to determine if it requires a engine change they must know what to look for as the tell tale signs, and if that is the case then why the hell can't L/R check U.K vehicles, unless of course they think they will find to many that need replacing. I did think the first people knew of the issue was when the vehicle stopped abruptly, I am prepared to accept I might be talking complete and utter rubbish though.

Cheers
Col
