Towing electrics

Hi All,
Hope someone can help. When caravan connected to car the side lights won't come on,indicators and brake lights work just not the side lights. We had 12 n & S sockets which was the same and just had changed to 13 pin, still the same.
Any suggestions please?

you have a late model, which I believe doesn't have fuses in the rear for the towbar.

You may want to check the side light fuses behind the glovebox. 10A I think,
probably 3 of them (1 for towbar)

Have you tested the RRS with another caravan or trailer, or tested the caravan with another car? Is it definately the RRS with the problem and not the caravan wiring?

Using the below diagram, with side lights on use pin 3 for the earth then check for voltage on pins 5 and 7.

Edit: On re-reading your question I can read it 2 ways. Do you mean the caravan side lights don't come on, or do you mean when the caravan is connected the RRS side lights don't come on ? 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

Caravan was tested with another vehicle on Sunday and all was fine so definitely the RRS,we've had it to an auto electrician today explained the problem and asked to change to 13 pin as well, took it up to the caravan this evening and still the same Big Cry so will be going back tomorrow, when it had the N & S sockets we tested on a trailer board and the same on that also.

Sorry side lights don't come on either car or caravan when connected

If an auto electrician changed from the 12N&12S to 13pin just today then I would presume (hope) he tested the socket with a tester of some sort?
Deleted - I see you tested with a trailer board so irrelevant.
Do you know if the trailer socket wiring is genuine LR, a plug and play type kit or if it's a spliced in job? I think I'd be searching for a miswire in the socket loom. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

All seems a genuine plug and play kit, we had the side panel and left rear light out the other day.
I would hope they tested it also, common sense if nothing else,we had the trailer board on the other day.Really comtemplating starting from scratch and getting a complete new harness as we are supposed to be going away on Saturday.

Are you handy with a voltmeter as it'd be worthwhile working through the pins looking for voltages as per the diagram. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

Well check the side light wire with a test lamp in the rear left quarter

See top of maintenance section for wiring info

We haven't done on this one as yet, though did on the 7 pin and 5 & 7 had nothing,we had no idea where to go from there hence why taking it in today, really seems like they have just swopped the socket and not checked anything.

Any help? I think these are the plugs behind L/H boot panel, I assume there is no issue with the vehicle side lights with the caravan dis-connected.

I’m still saying it’s a fuse by glovebox.

If the side lights are working on the vehicle that only really leaves fuse No.27 Trailer Side Lamps, if not then it has to be 24 & 25.

Cheers

Blown fuses would be a good result, but why would the RRS side lights work ok without trailer connected, but not when connected? That's the bit that's confusing me, it often can be a short, but if it's fused and no blown fuses....... 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine
