Have you got drive on car ramps

After the gearbox oil change recently I saw Bodsy use the plastic ramps. Bingo I want some this would make life so much easier. After narrowing it down I’ve purchased a pair, but having received the Katsu 161914 pair (2 ramps) there is a label on the box saying 2.5 ton max. Slightly annoyed as the advert said upto 5 tonnes. Seller is confirming before I open the boxing.

5 ton max probably means both ramps each ramp is 2.5 ton x2 equals 5 ton,,your sport will weigh about 2.7 ton but you won’t have that much weight on the ramps as you’ll only have the front or rear on them at any one time.Probably 3/4 of ton on one ramp if that. Andy.

Andy I hope you’re right but my gut instinct is 1.25 tonnes per ramp. Hopefully I’m proved wrong.

Hi Steve,
this may be a bit out of the box thinking but have a search (youtube?) for racing cars and corner weight set up,
istr the set up is by using four scales to set weights on each corner/tyre may help you understand

or may just confuse Laughing

Steve.

Even at 1.25 ton per ramp you should be ok,as you drive the front end on most of the weight will be distributed to the rear & vice versa when reversing on them.People say to me how can you lift a Rangerover weighing nearly 3= ton with a 2 ton jack,,,I’m not lifting all the vehicle at once, only 1 corner at a time. Andy.

What Tyrefitter said. I used my Halfords 2 Ton trolley jack to lift the nose wheel of a Tornado Jet out of the ground at the highlands aviation museum a few years back. No issue. And that was about 20 to 30 Ton all up. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

I have the 5.8 tonne plastic ones, they are awesome. so easy to lug around, don't slip, well worth the money.
If you have doubts about the rating, just drive the car on them, suitable plastic ones don't creak, bend or flex. They are incredibly rigid with weight on. I can understand your concern, as something so light shouldn't hold such weight with ease.

Or, you could mark round when a tyre touches the ground, calculate that area and multiply it by the tyre pressure to get the load...

...I'll get my coat.

Well the seller responded yesterday and said the load limit for the 2 ramps is 2.5 tonnes. I’ve told my wife to keep the email for when it collapses on me she can buy a new L405 with the claim Shocked
