I always fill up with Shell V-Power Diesel but it is quite expensive.

That's what I suspected ... do you use the cheaper fuel ? |

The only difference is the 'brands' add their own particular additives at the depot These additives can increase the 'burn' and help clean injectors (both petrol and diesel). I use Supermarket fuel but every 5/6 refills I use a tank of Shell/ BP. |

I use the supermarket pumps if it's handy at the time but just as often use the regular big petro company forecourts. |

I always find that buying from my local asda pump gives me less miles to the gallon compared to when I fill in my esso garage where it is usually 2p per litre more expensive. I can get roughly 20 ish miles more on a full tank. Or it might be all in my head |

As has been said above the additive pack in Premium fuel is way better than supermarket fuel - hence why supermarket fuel is cheaper - my advice would be to stick with Premium branded fuel for better MPG and a better all round driving experience .

Quite often it’s an esso tanker that fills our local Tesco’s. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Let’s just make sure we are comparing like with like. Yes there are standards covering the basic fuel so I can’t see that Tesco standard fuel is any different from Esso standard fuel.

I found that on the last couple of cars I`ve had, I`ve had slightly better mpg with Tesco Momentum. If I can`t be bothered going across town to Tesco, I just use normal Shell unleaded.

I'd read that as all fuels across Europe meet the minimum standards - it doesn't mean the big companies can't include additives to exceed those standards. |
