If you undo the filler without the engine running, then you will lose a lot of fluid.

Bodsy - question on this if I may - I want to do a sump change to the metal one and do a basic oil change at the same time (not a full/mega flush). I figured that if you ran the engine while dropping the fluid you would drop a lot more fluid as you have indicated above. HOWEVER I was not going to do it as I was concerned that at some point the remaining fluid in the torque converter and gearbox would be too low with the engine running and would cause damage. Do you know if there is a time or some other criteria that allows the engine to run with the drain plug out before damage does occur? I intended to do a second transmission oil drop in about 1000km after the first to maximize the amount of oil changed but getting the maximum oil out without damage would be helpful. Thanks Garry 07MY RRS TDV6 Arctic Frost Aspen Interior |

Whatever you do, do NOT run the engine whilst changing the filter/pan.

The D3 boys have been doing this for years and it removes most of the oil.

Not sure I’ve seen many doing that. Id never run the box until no oil comes out.

Obviously its not great, but once in the life of the gearbox should be fine.
