RRS TDV6 - MAF

Hi guys new to the site so please bear with me.

I have a 2008 Range Rover sport TDV6 and it has been great until around 3/4 weeks ago when all hell broke loose. Suddenly and without warning the vehicle developed multitude of issues which I have been slowly but surely trying to sort via a trusted mechanic and advice via various forums. I will try to list as much as possible so as to give an accurate account of the issues.

I had the three amigos show up and did all the usual brake light bulbs, brake sensor, and this seemed to cure the HDC problem, however almost immediately i started getting "transmission fault" "Low Coolant" showing on the dash , I instantly had the transmission filter and Oil changed (needed done anyway) with absolutely no improvement.

Air filter
Fuel Filter
Oil Filter and Oil
New Brake sensor switch
New left hand ABS/Speed Sensor
New Mass Air Flow sensor
New Bosch Battery
EGR;s Blanked but not mapped out yet

I should mention that I did get the codes read via my mechanic using a high end Snap on reader and got the P0140 and P0100 codes (P0140 EGR code is due to EGR blanks recently been done) (P0100 MAF code) I have replaced this twice once with a spare from a friend and when this gave the same code I splashed out on a new one with same code appearing after clearing codes and prior to even starting the engine, The live data reports 0.00 which says to me that this MAF is not even registering,

Car has reduced performance on pickup until 2500RPM and then shoots off and if driven at speeds over 50mph will go into limp mode and display "Engine Fault" Pull over put into Park and restart engine all is fine for another few miles. I have tried to check the hoses for leaks or breaks with limited access - please let me know if anyone has had these issues and any possible pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Update from this morning

Been to the garage once again and the mechanic has put his hands up and said "i dont know" as there is absolutley no activity coming through the MAF sensor so this has to be an electrical fault as the MAF is simply not doing its job.

I am now looking for a good auto-spark to hopefully diagnose what is going on - in the meantime i have a very well maintained vehicle that does not work as it should.

still starts as it should although sometimes it will throw up "brake pad" "low Coolant" and "Transmission fault" warnings these are all areas that have been maintained and we know there is no fault here.

Symptoms still are with performance 1st gear in particular which seems to be very sluggish until 2500rpm and then turbo kicks in and shoots off. Black smoke when kicked down and "engine fault" appearing if driven at over 50mph followed by limp mode, however when switched off and back on it is fine. Car never stalls or cuts out and will happily idle and rev all day long - sadly not to good on a drive though.

Any views or advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for the reply

I have it booked into a Landrover specialist on Monday and I am hoping that this will reveal the real issue.
My abilities are limited and i am just trying to get some understanding of what may be going on so that I dont get ripped off. so far I have spent an absolute fortune replacing and maintaining everything that has been suggested to me by mechanic which I suppose is good for the car albeit it has not resolved the issue.

I will think twice before buying another Range rover that's for sure.

A LR specialist sounds like just what you need, other mechanics are unlikely to have the right equipment to run proper diagnostics.
Hopefully it turns out a cheap and simple fix for you!

Hi guys

Update on my situation.

I am delighted to report that it was not as bad as I suspected. All my issues were due to two things, new brake light switch being a faulty one and secondly one of the wires connected to the MAF was rubbing on the body and creating further issues.

Car is now back to itself and I am delighted - Just goes to show that it is sometimes simple and need not cost the earth despite what LR say.

Excellent news. Thanks for updating so others can learn from your experience. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

Great news. i was wondering if you'd come back and say it needed a new battery which seems to be a common cause of multiple errors. Merc C220 estate Sport AMG
