Rear view

Thinking of fitting a reverse camera , to either the hatch lock or replace the number plate lense with one .
Question is do any of them pick up the towing eye for lining up.
Not using the mid screen as it needs an expensive interface, that's another story !
Has anyone got knowledge of the view on My 2007 V8tdi.

The problem on the RRS is that you can't get a cable to the no plate light or no. plate. (unless you bodge it on the outside)

The factory wiring is routed before the glass is bonded in.

I fitted a camera in the top spoiler. Works ok as a reverse camera. But not for towbar.

If you have a GAP IID you can upgrade the display to the facelift model and plug in a reverse cam to that. Maybe £160 ish ?

Ok thank you for your reply.
I have the gap tool but wary of flashing the ecu , guess that's what's involved. In fact there are a few request updates on the ecu lists in GAP. Not sure if they are going to disable my car ?
Think if there is no other info on seeing the towing eye in reverse , I'll look for a flush faced camera for the bumper.

an ECU flash is not required. Just a CCF update. But yes, a battery charger should be connected while you do this

OK Thank you for that , is that ccf update of instrument dash then. Do you know that for sure please, and does it affect the phone module or does it leave alone.
Do you t ,think there would be a wiring loom already in the spoiler?
Too add does anyone know if the towing eye is seen , doesn't look like it frpm visual .

You certainly cannot see the the tow hitch in the o.e. rear view camera fitted in the spoiler on a face-lift RRS1 due to the rake of the rear window/tailgate the best you will see is the rear wiper arm. The extra feature you could get only worked on the D4 due to the shape of the rear.

Cheers
Col

I installed one of those number plate cameras on my 2007 RRS. I run the cable around the rim of the upper window and gaffer taped it down. I don't notice it at all.

With said camera, you can not quite see the tow-hitch but you can see from about 1ft down the arm. The only problem I found was you had to allow for the offset of the camera not being central when lining up to hitch up.

the ccf is stored centrally I think. It basically says what options are fitted to the car. As long as you take precautions of turning interiors lights off, and charging the battery for 1 hour before attempting and during its safe to do.

I think the phone was ok in the end. But not 100% sure

There is no camera wiring in the spoiler. It's not difficult to fit though. Headlining down at the rear, then run it down the passenger side roof lining, removing the C, B, A interior pillars

Ok Andy , Thank you will have a go at the w/e, this will be on an RRsport naturally.. So this updates the screen to parking camera only or does it have other improvements.

Also meant to say I can do this prior to fitting a camera? If I can get to the back of it and look for the rca plugs , assuming they have this I am going to try wireless , to keep things tidy, hope it works!

This only does one thing. Says a camera is fitted.
Sadly life with the Range Rover is never quite that easy. You won’t notice a difference.
You have to cut a yellow wire to the displays front panel before you notice anything. This has disadvantages though, like the display being at a fixed brightness (so not good in sunshine).
You existing display has fakra connectors on the back.
You can get fakra to rca connectors from this sites
Shop or eBay.

If you tow rarely It maybe a solution that you can go into the hidden menu (see video below) to see the camera picture. (And in this case no need to cut yellow wire or Ccf change)

The D4 2010 display doesn’t have fakra

He is holding his finger down for at least 3 seconds at the start.

If you had a ntsc camera plugged into the brown port you would have seen a pic.

Ok this looks like I should steer clear, I'll get a separate monitor for the dash.
Thanks for your help.
I have a list of things wrong for this car since I bought it , if I had a diagnostic when I went to look at it , I would never have bought it.
So I'll keep it simple .
