Stupid Q - boot opening RRS 2007

Problem 2 - secondhand 2.7 HSE RRS 2007.....the boot will open fine but the top half will not open when pressing the catch....I assume it's broken unless I am stupidly missing something in the cab I need to press or on the fob....opened before buying...now it doesn't....user manual missing and cannot see anything obvious

Only thing is to ensure the boot is fully closed.

The glass should then open.

They are problematic though

Welcome to 2nd hand RRS's Very Happy

I had the same issue with mine after I bought. One of 2 things - either a loose/corroded wire to the upper tailgate release or a knackered release. Water comes down the back screen and into that area like billy-o and as a result this is quite a well known issue. Take the panel off above the release switch and check that the wire is making a good connection and if that is still not working, then replace the switch with a new one - available on eBay and I think Mondeo ones are similarly compatible?

Simple/cheap fix

I have the same issue with mine. In my case a faulty, and presumably corroded, switch. If you squeeze the tailgate switch tightly, adjusting the precise point you are squeezing, and also repeat a number if times, you may get it to start working again. Mine did that and as I don't use it too much I'm just waiting for some warmer weather before I have a go at changing it. Robin

Pressed switch loads of time in various places still no joy....any ideas as to how to get to check it.....having trouble removing the trim....vids and threads suggest you have to have the top open to remove trim....is there another way to access the switch/cable?

switch comes out easy. Just use a flat blade screwdriver and leaver at one edge.

The rubber than then be removed, white corrosion removed with said screwdriver.
Press the nipple on the switch and see if the window opens.
short the 2 switch wires together.

for new one if faulty:
