Engine not turning over but battery ok

Hoping someone can shed some light on a starting problem. Just to set the scene, I have suffered from a discharged battery once or twice lately, me putting it down to short runs etc, so I got myself a ctek charger to give the battery the odd boost and all seemed ok. We went on holiday and as usual my son often borrows the car, he had collected it from our house with no issue and drove it to his house,, no more than a mile, stopped to collect some items but when he tried to drive off again it wouldn't start,,, battery light on the dash and just a click when pushing the start button,,, flat battery I assumed. Told him to get the breakdown people out to get it started then get back to the garage and get it on charge.
When the guy turned up he said the battery was fine, he said the problem was lack of fuel or air in the fuel lines???, apparently this stops the engine from turning over,, imitating a flat battery. He seemed to prove his point by persevering trying to start it but also giving it a bit on the throttle at the same time. It started after a few attempts, he checked battery etc and said all was fine.
He said it's not a big job to change the fuel lines just on the Off chance one was drawing in air

Did a search on the forums but not found any similar posts 2010 RRS, TDV8

I would say the battery is U/S, nothing to do with fuel.
Change the battery and check to see if the new one is charging, if not you will need an alternator. Lot of Landcruisers now sold

If the breakdown guy kept pressing the start button and it just kept clicking then suddenly turned over and started then I would say it could be a starter problem ie a bad connection.
It might be worth checking the battery connections as well. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

That breakdown guy should not be let loose on a dinky toy never mind a proper car..you have a bad connection, or bad earth, nothing to do with fuel.. Shocked

You could try the old put headlights on then press starter if headlights dim then your battery is shot, if they don't dim then battery is fine and you either have a sticking starter or a bad connection.

Well had another better read of your post and have some questions.
Did the boy have jump leads on your car when he tried to start it ?
When it did turnover was it at its usual speed of slow ?
The clicking noise would be the starter solenoid cutting in, if when it did turn over if it was at normal speed the starter could be sticking or a bad connection between the starter solenoid and the starter motor.
Low power in the battery will also cause the starter to turn slow and if it does not turn quick enough it won’t through out and start the car.
How he can say the battery is in good condition is beyond me, you can put a volt meter on a battery and get + 12v but this does not indicate that the battery is in good condition – it only tells you that at least one battery cell is good.
First thing to do is try and charge the battery then try to start the car, with a full charge if it turn over at normal speed I would think starter and solenoid are OK. If it still just clicks check the starter earth and all other connections on the starter.

Thanks for all the comments guys,,I was a bit dubious Regards the comment he made about fuel,. as Flack has also rubbished his comments i think I will forget that line thought. Trouble was I was in Dubai when all this was going on so been trying to piece together info from my son. Apparently he did have a jump starter when trying to start it which made no difference so I can see his point when saying the battery is ok, in fact the battery has not been charged since all this happened and it been starting fine,,,, proper whizzes over when cranking.

I am now starting to favour the " bad connection " theory, I will stkart with the battery but how easy is it to access the starter motor,,, I'm also guessing the solenoid and the starter motor are all one unit?? 2010 RRS, TDV8

Definitely connections.

Now't to do with fuel as pressing accelerator does nothing as its a drive by wire so until the ECU detects the engine firing the accelerator is not under driver control
