Surround Cameras Retro

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know what parts are needed, apart from the cameras etc, to retro fit surround cameras on a 2012 AB?

What do the cameras plug in to?

I have just had a look at L/R parts list and apart from the five cameras (even the reverse cam is different) you would appear to need the camera control module, Tailgate Harness, Front Bumper Harness, Possibly Engine Bay and Main Dash Harness. There is something like Twenty Main Harnesses listed depending on Engine, Sound System and various other options fitted so how on earth you would begin to decide which one you needed I would not have a clue.

Cheers

Hi Col,

I guess if you can get the wiring diagram for the camera system, there should be extra wiring for things like power and CAN then the video source to the cameras etc. All harness will change just to add these wires. If I could get the wiring diagram for the system, I could work it out.

I would imagine if you take out a short subscription to Topix you should be able to find all the relevant wiring diagrams and download them.

I do have surround camera system and not really sure it's of much use to be honest unless you are off roading. might be different if they all come on automatically when you select reverse or something like that but you have to manually select them via the touch screen.

Cheers

One thing I did think of was that you can get a universal kit where you can select which cameras come on when then feed it into where the reverse camera is but could not find where the reverse camera is connected or the signal type

I do know on the actual Reverse Camera the Fixed one has a coax cable with a Fakra connector and two terminal pins, on the Surround Camera there is the coax cable and four terminal pins. Unfortunately I would not know where they actually go to from the camera.

On the fixed camera the two terminals are simply 12v supply and earth as I did fit a Facelift A/B spoiler and camera to pre facelift car which I then run through a GVIF unit and navigation computer to the screen

Hi

My mistake just had a look at a couple of spare surround camera's I have and they do not have the coax cable just the four pins. If it helps I can add a couple of pictures of the connectors on rear of the cameras.

Cheers

The my10/11 vehicles has analogue cameras. They changed to digital on 2012 onwards.

The reverse camera may well be analogue still. Just because it has four pins, they are for 12v+, ground, video signal+ and video signal shield.

On the 2014 discovery, it's still analogue if you only have the reverse camera, but I don't know if they fit a digital camera for reverse if you have surround. Bodsys Brake Bible

Great Stuff!!!

I guess they are all digital when surround as they have the moving lines when surround is fitted.

I would say so, that reverse camera is a different connector to the standalone reverse camera (which is analogue) Bodsys Brake Bible
