I hope you're right - I was always gentle with mine when cold although I didn't leave idling as often as perhaps is ideal. Following my turbo failures, I now have a BAS FBH remote; I start this every morning before getting in the shower so that the coolant (and hence the oil to a degree) is warm. A gentle first mile to allow that warmth to get everywhere is followed by 60 seconds of idling before switch off. Longer idling if I've been on the motorway for a period of time. Fingers crossed that this is sufficient insurance against a further failure.

The lack of external cooling may also be a contributing factor, but only emphasises the need to warm up and cool down correctly |

As above always take it easy till temp is near normal and always let it idle for a minute or so, don't arf get grief from the Mrs !! But I'll do anything to help look after the engine/ turbo's

As a little test I checked the oil temp this morning after the FBH had been running for 30 minutes on the BAS timer. It was 71 degC which dropped to 60degC in the first minute's idling sat on the drive presumably as the oil mixed with cooler oil from the bottom of the sump. Ambient temp on the dash display was 15degC. Oil temp sensor is in the oil pan so it's a fair indication of oil temp in the engine. Oil temp taken from IID Tool (it's in the transmission live values list for some reason). I take it as a vindication for using the remote FBH even in the summer - getting the oil warm and thus flowing properly right from engine start has to be beneficial. I hope. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

I upgraded my IID to ver 3 t'other evening and this morning had another look. As you say, there is now an engine section that wasn't there in ver. 2.18. Great stuff in there. Sadly, this showed the engine oil temp to be only 25degC after 30 mins of FBH at ambient 11degC where coolant temp is at 71degC. That's a lot less than the previous one showed. I left it showing and it got to 55degC within the first mile of gentle driving so not too bad. I keep thinking of getting a BT version of the IID but I'm about to change tyres, get an MOT and a service is looming soon too so I'm avoiding excess toy-fund spending this month... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Speak to Patrick at Gap. He can advise on upgrading to the BT version, and a greatly reduced cost over a new unit |

Just bought a 12 RRS HST TDV6 a few weeks back. Really happy with it. Just curious to know is it just the V8 turbo giving most trouble or is it the V6 also? |

The TDV8 suffers more from turbo issues than the TDV6 do it seems. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
