I leave it in 'D' and apply the handbrake if I'm going to be waiting a while. Otherwise I sit with my foot on the brake if the traffic lights are due to change shortly.

The main consideration in that situation is for the brake discs. Sitting with your foot on the brake for a while when the discs are hot can cause them to warp.

Never put it in park because if you get a nudge from behind it will wreck your gear box, I always leave it in D and if there a while apply hand brake |

Am I right in thinking you put the handbrake on, leave in D and take your foot off the foot brake? Surely that will put strain on the box and brake....?

The gearbox knows the EPB is on, so the TC will be fully open. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

It still pulls against the EPB though so there is still stress on components... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

True, but I would think it would be considerably less than would be seen under normal driving conditions anyway. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

That's exactly what I would do muddywheels. Also, hand brake and N stops the brake light glare on the car behind. I hate cars in front doing it to me so I think it is right that I think about that? |
