Gearbox Metal Sump Change - Oil Temp.

I have a metal sump to go onto my 07MY TDV6 auto gearbox.

Before I do the job I will get temps up to between 35c and 50c and get the replacement ATF up to temp.

However it will take a while to get the old plastic sump off and the 3-5litres or fluid in the sump out and then the new sump on. As it is quite cold here at the moment I would expect the fluid that remains in the system will most likely drop below 35c.

Do I have to worry about this or is there no issue as long as the new fluid is above 35c. If I do have to get the fluid remaining in the box above 35c how do I do that? Is it ok to run the gearbox with 3-5litres missing to get temps up.

Cheers

Drain the fluid (making sure the filler comes undone first!) replace the filter/pan, top up with fluid until it starts to overflow. Put filler plug back in. Start car and get oil up to temp. Put car in drive and command shift 1,2,3 N Reverse to get it moving through the oil galleries. Back in park, remove the filler and top up till it starts coming out. Bodsys Brake Bible
