driving the auto RRS CAR on traffic light waiting

Hello Folks,

Can anyone advise what is the best way for driving the auto RRS CAR, usually on traffic light, on long queue or crossing when you need to stop for a while , is it best practice to stay on drive (D) use brake to wait the green light to go, or to put the gear on neutral (N) and brake then when green come put the gear in Drive and go.

or put on parking (P) and brake while waiting.

I am worried just want to be sure what is best practice and maintain the gear box.

I always just leave it in "D" and never had any problems doing 20000 miles a year for the last 28 years MY16 AUTOBIOGRAPHY Indus silver with some toys

I leave it in 'D' and apply the handbrake if I'm going to be waiting a while. Otherwise I sit with my foot on the brake if the traffic lights are due to change shortly.
If it's going to be a long wait, I put it in neutral and switch the engine off....Diesel ain't cheap Crying or Very sad I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

The main consideration in that situation is for the brake discs. Sitting with your foot on the brake for a while when the discs are hot can cause them to warp.

To be sympathetic to the torque converter, the main thing is let it do it's own thing - don't use Sport, Command Shift or cruise control. Wink

Most importantly of all, ensure you have the box flushed every 50-75k. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Never put it in park because if you get a nudge from behind it will wreck your gear box, I always leave it in D and if there a while apply hand brake

Am I right in thinking you put the handbrake on, leave in D and take your foot off the foot brake? Surely that will put strain on the box and brake....?
I flick it into neutral at the lights and either stay on foot brake or flick on the park brake Visitor from fullfatrr.com

It still pulls against the EPB though so there is still stress on components... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

That's exactly what I would do muddywheels. Also, hand brake and N stops the brake light glare on the car behind. I hate cars in front doing it to me so I think it is right that I think about that?
