United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Bonatti Grey
Car passed MOT but …...

Hi all,

My 2006 RRS SC passed its MOT yesterday at the indie I use but they put an advisory on the certificate stating that the nearside and offside front to rear brake pipes were slightly corroded.

They said it would cost about £300 to supply and fit new ones, does this sound about right for the work and parts involved? They also said that I could clean them up and grease them.

Has anyone else had the brake pipes renewed and what was the cost?

Thanks in advance. 2006 RRS SC Bonatti Grey (the 55th car/van I have owned)

I had that on an advisory 2 years back. I fixed the problem with a wire brush. Sailed through the subsequent MOT.
Not saying that you don't have a problem, but check to make sure that they are "corroded". Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

I used to have tested a lot of Class 7 commercial vehicles at one time, and some testers love this one. If they are deeply crusty and liable to spring a leak, maybe, but a bit of surface rust is often enough for a tester to call them corroded when they are alright really.

The simple fix that we used to do is usually to clean them up with a circular wire brush on a drill or some sandapaper, then lightly grease them with grease on a cloth so they are no longer rusty brown but dark and lubricated. This removes the visible corrosion (which is the test point) and also prevents further moisture damage. And its never a bad thing to do anyway.

Some testers don't like you doing that, depends how pedantic they are, but they cant fail it on retest as the corrosion they noted is no longer visible.

As it was only an advisory, there is likely nothing to worry about. Clean them up and grease them as Luke and Simon also said and you will be golden next time. Keep your £300 in your pocket. Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

Spiffing wheel centre caps available

Is this something that would be covered under warranty?

Got the all singing dancing extra care by warranty direct.

Advisory: "Corroded gas suspension unit slightly deteriorated"
Also, not on MOT but health check shows flexi hoses due change under "steering & suspension" section 07 TDV8 + BAS map

Hi all

A quick search brought me to this thread.....
can I just check if anybody has actual experience of having the rear corroded brake lines replaced and at what cost?
Only I can see on this threads quotes of £75... £300... and on a similar thread the guru Bobby saying it's a body off job with quotes of £2000
Rather a vast range of prices there!

Or likewise has anybody done the job themselves (with body on Wink )

Thanks

Huh???

Have I missed something???

Nowhere have I complained or questioned £300.
All I asked was what have people actually paid as I've read £75, £300, £2000
Surely anyone would agree that's a big range of prices!
I'm really not sure that warrants either 'get reals' or 'FFS'????

Not
