"Pressure increase is too slow when filling reservoir"

That's what comes up when the computer is plugged into the car.

Don't forget a bad air tank can cause this as was the case on the wife's D3 recently.

If you get to the reservoir tank, are there checks that can be done to see if it's knackered, like using soapy water to check for leaks, stuff like that?

Soapy water if good plus you can here a leak if your lucky

Here's the way I repaired couple compressors.

If you have "Suspension fault" "Normal height only", yellow suspension light on the instrument cluster and air suspension control switch inoperative, LED's off on the button arrows.

The fault code is

C1A20 64
C1A20-64
C1A2064

Here's what service manual says

Compressor fault
Reservoir pipe air leak
Reservoir air leak
Gallery pipe air leak
Intake filter blocked/restricted
Intake pipe blocked/restricted
Air suspension intake silencer blocked/restricted
Corner valve stuck open
Pressure sensor fault

But the actual problem is the compressor dryer cover crack leak. There're two holes in it for 5mm exhaust pipe and 6mm line to reservoir-gallery. The gap between holes has a micro crack which leaks the air.

To find out the the crack exist you need soap water spray the area there and turn one the engine to start the air compressor automatically pump the air. At first it might look like leaking pipe connectors but the problem is crack.

I have manufaturred couple of these dryer covers in stainless steel and couple in aluminum. Used fast release connectors for pipes.

No need of new compressor, no need of new dryers which is no longer available from Land Rover
RQQ500013, RQQ500014, RQQ500015, RQQ500016, RQQ500020, VUB504700.

Couple of these I've done without removing compressor from the car just removed bottom plastic compressor cover.

How to Do It Yourself DIY

Tools required

-ratchet
-extension
-10mm socket
-T30 socket
-utility knife
-14mm open end wrech
-swivel extension


First of all locate the compressor box under rear left side door, it's a black plastic box. Remove lower compressor box cover, unscrew 3x 10mm bolts and unlcip plastic fasteners.

Locate blue and orange connections, crack should be there, use sprayer with soapy water to detect leak and find a crack. Start the engine to run the compressor, if compressor doesn't start lower and raise the vehicle and compressor will run.

When crack detected turn off the engine, disconnect battery negative, disconnect two electrical connections by the compressor to have more room. Disconnect pipes from blue and orange holes by pushing blue, orange rings and pulling the pipes out.

Use T30 to unscrew six caps screws, I recommend to start from the top. Remove the cover, hold it tight, there's a spring behind the cap.

Replace red o-ring, put the spring back in place, put new cap in. Use small amount of soap or other lubricant on red o-ring for easier installation.

Put quick release joints in finger tight. Use 14mm open end wrench to tight but don't use too much force. Push 5mm pipe to side connection which was in orange before. Use utility knife to shorten 6mm pipe 3cm which was in blue connection before and push in center connection. The quick release joints require to push pipes to the very end and the pull back.

Connect electric connections, battery negative, run compressor and use soapy water to make sure there's no leak. Put lower cover back in place and you're done

Got mine from an outfit on eBay,,, 4x4 air seals,, they do various kits depending on what you want to do from full rebuild to dryer or valve block service.

I will say that a cracked dryer cap,, although a common problem is not always the answer to the above problem. I have the same issue intermittently and have rebuilt the compressor with new end cap. I believe the problem can also be with the compressor motor. I had the opportunity to do some testing and found the compressor would run for a short time then stop and flag "normal height only" fault,,,, but there was still a 12V supply to the compressor, so in theory should still be running. These motors are permanent magnet type and not serviceable unlike brushed type as first step ordinarily would be new brushes. 2010 RRS, TDV8
