brave guy. how much old oil did you get out Dan? I'd like this done soon and toying with the idea of doing it myself. Is it simple enough?
Thx / Luke Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

I actually didn,t drop the oil pan and filter. I drained it with the intentions of doing so but having seen how bad the oil was i just drained it and re-filled it with the intentions of doing it again this weekend.
I got nearly 3ltrs out just by draining it.
Its actually really easy:
remove the gaurd, undo the plug both on the bottom and side and leave to drain!

i then refitted the bottom plug and made a filler to put in new oil. (see pics) fill till it drains from the side plug and refit. With the engine running and your foot on the brake select all gears a few times and then turn off and recheck level by removing side fill plug. if it drains there is enough.
I'm leaving it a week then i'll do it again..... when i get red fluid back out i'll know it's all changed.
Even with just the 3ltrs i got out and replaced the difference is phenomenal

My suggestion with anyone working on oil changes with the transmission system of any car is to always make sure you can remove the refill plug before you drain.
Never happened to me (I guess being an engineer makes you think about these things) but you definitely don't want to be stuck with not being able to refill.

Dan - looks like you have had the steel pan conversion - not so easy to do if you still have the original plastic sump.

no it hasn't had the conversion.
i have the new steel sump and filter here to fit.
I was just trying to get to clean red oil before i went the full distance and ripped it all off.

i too am an engineer by trade...... and i agree fully.
this also applies to diffs/engines/brakes etc. Always check where you fill something can be accessed before
you empty.

So you sucked out the oil through the filler hole (I didn't think the plastic sump had a drain).

Just interested as I have to do all this myself.

Where did you get your Lifeguard 6 from?

Cheers

the drain plug on the plastic sump is near the cross member, undone with an 8mm (i think) hex head, refitted to a max of 8Nm.

My oil i got from a local independent Landrover specialist call MR Automotive.
