Wheel Spacers for 22"

I'm looking to get wheel spacers for my 22" wheels on the Sport Autobiography.

The wheels do look a bit squished inside the wheelwell

Anybody suggest for or against?

Also anyone done this in the past or has suggestions regarding how big a spacer I should use?

I guess it depends on how far you want to go out.

However, you must recognise that we will have optimised the wheel position and designed all of the parts that hold that in place before embarking on the validation programme to sign the whole lot off and also we would have taken scientific measurements in Road Load Data (RLD) before running rigourous test cycles to replicate those loads up to end of life.
By changing the moments of inertia, there is no telling what you may do, but at the very least, you'd have to expect an accelerated wear rate on things like wheel bearings and stress on wheel studs.

Also, depending on how far out you do go, you could actually end up seriously degrading the handling (causing unnecessary RSC interventions) and having strange tyre wear unless you get the geometry set to accommodate this.

Are those good enough reasons as to why not? Very Happy

In UK. Don't forget to let your insurance company know of this modification. Some can rather load you, but without notification your insurance is invalid in the event of any accident, and that would be a great shame not to be able to keep your vehicle.
The Police are notified by many that you have been driving without insurance, (in event of accident) but I'm sure you have done all this, just a reminder for others going down this route. John

I believe it depends on the accident and what contributed to it. The insurers are liable for 3rd party cover, but may come after you for the money. Fully comp depends on the claim. If the wheel/hub failure was the cause of the accident, then you are foobared. If not and the car is written off they may ask you to pay the difference between the premium and what the premium would have been if the mods were declared.

One could try and argue that using spacers makes the car less attractive to thieves and so the premium you have been paying should have been less. Wink

Sorry AJ. Razz

Many have pointed out reasons to not do it, but I have heard H&R are the best. Also, you should consider an aftermarket set of wheels as they can adjust the offset to give you the look you are looking for without the added stress on said items.

Whilst fitting the different offset wheels alone would improve the joint integrity over fitting spacers, the stresses on the adjoining components remain the same so you're no better off.

There's a reason why we have CAE and Road Load Data to set wheel positions......
