Sluggish, black smoke ,then fine

Hi guys, bit of a strange one here driving along all is fine slow down for traffic then when I accelerate its as if it don't want to change down and go , it changes down feels like its being held back for a few seconds then chucks out black smoke for a
Few seconds and then its all back to normal , I'm not getting smoke at any other time unless in this scenario , this happened 3 times to day but i was in traffic on and off most of the day so quite random, when this is happening its almost like its in limp mode for a few seconds then runs and drives as normal, I have no warning lights showing.
Thanks in advance for any advice. Rich

could maybe be a pin hole in your inter cooler pipe and obviously gets bigger when under higher pressure(accelerating)

Faulty EGR valves maybe, common problem.

I'd go with EGR valves too. The delay in responding to the throttle is the EGR being slow and then the smoke is because the engine is momentarily overfuelled. That or an incipient failure of the intercooler hose. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I had the same thing. The EGRs were done but there was also a split in the intercooler. All fixed now and it's like a different car.
