Hi all, noticed the other day that when I changed music track with buttons on steering wheel, for some reason it beeped and voice control came on ??? I take it this is the old electrical gremlin rearing his ugly head ?? Cheers

Check the wiring behind the airbag, if it's not that, it may be the rotary coupler/clockspring

I'm new to Range Rover ownership too, yesterday all the buttons on the left hand side of the steering wheel stopped working after being intermittent for a few days. Now I don't have any cruise control.

Does this sound like the rotary coupler?

If so what sort of cost am I looking at to fix it?
I'm in Nottingham UK so any recommendations on a garage? Or is it easy enough to fix myself (I'm pretty good with a hammer and spanner;)

Hi Samantha, I live by Junc 25 M1 (Sandiacre area) and I use an indy in Wirksworth called DLS.

If you ring them, ask for Nick.

They have done a lot of jobs for me and have been really good. In fact my car is going in tomorrow to have the drivers door actuator replaced.

Morning,

I can supply a brand new genuine LR part clockspring to you significantly cheaper than LR. It's straightforward to fit. You need a coat hanger or similar tool to have a 5mm hook to pop open the airbag, a 16mm socket
Philips screwdriver and possibly small Torx 20 or 25 bit.

I'm sure it sounds like it's the rotary coupler but is there anyway to confirm this diagnosis before buying a new one? Unless the new one is so cheap it's not worth the effort to check it.

If you take the airbag off, have a good look at the wiring. It's possible that it may be chaffed and a cheap (free!) soldering repair.
