If you work for yourself then it may not be a good idea to pitch up in an RRS. I confess to having hid mine away on occasions especially when turning up for meetings with public sector organisations.

A member of the family owns his own business and wont by a FFRR (which he loves and can afford now) purely because of the image it has and how that will appear to his clients.

The most I've spent on a car is £20k. When people say 'look what you're driving' I remind them that their Focus ST cost the same as my car, so whats the difference? Even a very modest Fiesta etc is £14k, or a Kuga being £19k - but there's loads of those out there, and no one thinks that they're pompous or 'rich'.

As many have said if you can afford it. do it. Don't get too tied up in other peoples household income because things are are rarely that simple. I could earn 300k but be mortgaged up to the hilt with 4 kids at university- (I don't and I haven't) so probably couldn't afford a RRS, or I could earn 20k and be canny with money and afford one with ease. It's tragic to think if you driving about in a car you don't want because of what you perceive other people think.

From my similar experience, people/friends/colleagues may well pull their face or talk behind your back about what you have bought and spend your equally hard earned money on, but the ones that matter will soon get over it and the ones that don't are not worth bothering about. 2014 Nara Bronze SDV6

I can only agree with this. Buy a supercharged 1 & make sure you drive on to your drive so everyone can see the badge ![]() |

I currently have a 320d M Sport. My current short list is either a BMW 520d M Sport Touring, 6 months old with 5k miles, or a 3 year old RRS. A totally different kettle of fish I know, but it really is one way or another. Head and heart stuff. Last edited by dobbo9 on Thu Oct 31 2013 9:18am. Edited 1 time in total |

This is exactly what i mean. So as TST717 said..."I'm out". Think I'd prefer something equally as great to drive, practical but without the negative image. My second choice is a 6 month old 5 Series Touring M Sport. |

Take out a 25k additional mortgage and move to a detached house. Won't a BMW have the same effect as the RRS or are RRS just so unbelievably aspirational in the UK that they are the ultimate status symbol? Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
