HELP: Alternative expedition roof rack fitting

Help please!!!

Does anyone have any experience in fitting the Expidition roof rack to the RRS using the plastic spacer fittings (supplied with VUB504230)? ie. NOT using the roof gutter accessory (supplied as part of VUB502130).

I would be interested on views as to fitting the expedition roof rack with this method relative to the roof rail methoud, relating to:
*wind noise / fuel consumption
* stability / alignment
* load capacity

Hopefully, apart from a minor aesthetic difference, the method of using the (6) plastic spacers works fine.

Thanks for the help!

Had my rack fitted both ways and as you say apart from the appearance there isn't much difference in noice, stability etc. Removing the rack isn't so easy and I would suggest the rails as your fixing point. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

How did you fit it in the end?
I have just got a G4 rack.
Do I need to buy another kit other than the fitting kit with the rack?
The instructions are very confusing and involve a 19mm hole cutter
any advice appreciated Range Rover Sport tdv6 2.7

Hi,
I used the spacers (a set of 6 plastic mounts that fit onto the existing gutters. However, either way requires you to drill the holes in the gutters to a larger size.
Bear n mind that I think the standard mounts that come with the G4 rack are metal and are meant to be fitted onto the roof rails (an additional purchase from LR). If they are plastic, then they can go directly onto the gutters after you have widened the holes. Good luck

Thanks
I have the plastic mounts and I presume when you say drill the gutter you mean the removable plastic gutter insert

Its actually an aluminum gutter insert.. its the 2 long black strips that sit on top of the roof with 6 plastic round covers holding it in place.
