Egr again..... Sorry

Been searching the forum about this and can't find a answer.
My car lost all power on the way home then after turning it off and starting it again it was fine.
Probably a egr from reading on here, but why have lr fitted egrs if there not needed and can be blanked off? If its on the car to begin with how can they be blanked off and not cause any differance.
I really want to blank mine off. but keep thinking if a car was made with egrs, surely it's best to keep them and fit new ones.
Mines a my06 2.7 tdv6 done........155k Confused Full lrsh

Cheers.

Do a search on the D3 site, more info on there about blanking them off, i think its all to do with emissions and regulations, similar to having cats fitted to exhaust systems, they can run without them but the loophole is closing now. Whistle

The EGR system was developed to help bring emissions levels down to meet EU regulations.

As of EU4 emission limits, there was an EU regulation that says if there is a fault with the emissions control system, a warning light MUST be illuminated to warn the driver Rolling Eyes

Blank them off. You will never know about any further EGR issues, as they are effectively disabled, and at only £10 for a pair of blanking plates, its one of the cheapest RRS/D3 fixes you can do Thumbs Up

You need to do some research on how EGRS work - they are closed all the time (just like blanking) except on trailing throttle where it allows exhaust gases into the combustion process to reduce emissions - except when they are broke and locked open, EGRs have no impact on heavy acceleration and neither does balnking.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get the blanks?
I've got an EGR fault and poor MPG. I'm hoping that blanking will improve things Smile
