Which remap for 2.7d

I would probably want to have my car remapped soon after I collect it.

On previous cars that I have had remapped I have found that particularly on diesel cars that although they feel faster, there is usually a cloud of smoke as soon as you put your right foot down.. This cloud wasn't there before, but the Remapper denies that it is nothing to do with them.. Shocked

I have used a few different firms including AMD (for an X5) and had the same problem..

Who is the best regarded remapper for the RRS on here, please? Do they have a 4WD rolling road to prove Torque and HP increases?

Can anyone who has their remap confirm that the above mentioned cloud on kickdown is present or not?

If all good then I would like a Group buy remap, anyone else up for that? . Around London would be good

Cheers

Steve

When i had my 2.7 remapped i had the same problem, too much smoke on kick down or hard acceleration, so i had my map tweeked to try and reduce it, but it also reduced the power very slightly, mine wasn't set up on a rolling road though, it was an interface that plugs into the cars ecu and is all done via email, so i ended up with 3 maps, one smokey, one a little less smokey, and the original map, which isn't ideal if you tow a trailer or caravan on a regular basis or Pc plod is behind you going up hill. Confused

OMG Ady,

I would have asked for my money back TBH !
This is why I think it should be done at the Remapper's premises with all equipment to prove..Aterall you are paying £200-700 for a quality service, not some random code that could have been an inferior map

I was behind a very nice and shiny looking silver 56 plate HSE today admiring it and hoping the one I am buying looks as good when on the move.. on a dual carriageway and even at those speeds (50 MPH) without any real acceleration there were small puffs of smoke coming out of both exhausts (prob when it was switching gears or driver was slightly pressing the accelerator) it was not good seeing that and really detracted from the car...and in fact prompted me to ask the questions above. Maybe all LR Diesels do that??...maybe it was remapped
Sad

To be honest, that was what spoilt the pleasure in driving it with the remap on, the power delivery was great though, it had so much more grunt it was a totally different car but to see the plums of black smoke trails behind was not good, also shortly after the remap i had an egr valve fail Whistle i asked myself, was this helped by the remapp, i don't know but it was covered by warranty so i wasn't too bothered.

Most generic maps dump fuel in to compensate the extra boost etc. Hence the smoke. Ideally you need to find someone who can live map your Range.

Not a good remap indeed, ideally the car should be checked over, remapped, tested and checked by the supplier before parting with any cash.

Was it AMD you had an issue with Confused , as the guys there are superb and of course you'd be getting a bespoke remap thats tested on a RR and dyno'd etc.

Not had my RRS remapped, but if I was going to I'd head to AMD Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

AmD are great. I am a technical sponsor of the AmD tuning BTCC race car Very Happy Shaun & the lads look after all my cars.

But the AmD map would also be a generic map. Admittedly it would be a map designed specifically for the RRS, but generic for standardish engines.
Live mapping does what it says on the tin. It can be tailored to your style of driving, performance or economy, the
mods fitted etc. It's just finding someone to do it is the issue.

Live mapping is the best indeed, but costs a little more than a mere remap. As you say though, it takes serious knowledge of an engine's operation to do it properly and this is beyond mere chip resellers.

I have a BAS Map on my car - improved my 0-100kph time by over 2 secs and I do not have any more smoke than before ie none that is noticeable from the drivers seat.

BAS will make up a map to suit your needs.

Yes afraid so, but it was around/ before the time that the Essex branch was set up,.. I was told by them over the phone that is was probably a MAF? problem that was already there before the remap.. Rolling Eyes

Thanks Skipper Thumbs Up , I didn't realise that the AmD map was a generic map. I assumed as it was done at their premises on a RR and Dyno tested that they did it 'live' and bespoke for each car........you live and learn Smile

@ Mavster - That's a shame, I'd definitely try Shaun and the team at Thurrock, but I would understand your reluctance if you'd not been impressed with another branch before. Neutral ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

The right thing to have done would be making sure the car was running properly, replacing the MAF if necessary before putting a new map on it, imo the suppliers of the remap should have fixed or insisted you fix the car before doing any work on it Confused
