URGENT advice needed - sale of rangerover gone wrong.

Basically I have a 2007 range rover sport which i was trying to sell.. i got a call from a guy i knew who lives close to me saying he would give me his audi q7 and 16k. Initially I agreed and thought all was good. He told me that his q7 had 13k finance on it but he would clear that off when we do the deal. He also told me that he was going to apply for finance from a local car garage who would give him the money to buy my car. Basically they dont have the car in their garage but since they trusted him and knew him they applied for 24k finance for him from their garage so he could buy my car privately "unsure if thats legal or not." on the deal of the deal we went into the dealer before signing logbooks the guy asked me to sign a piece of paper in the dealers. I signed it thinkin everything was ok. He then transfered the 16k into our account and said that he transfered the other money into the other "buyers" account so he could call up blackhorse and clear his finance but it wouldnt be able to do it till next week. We thought ok we know its from a dealer etc nothing can do wrong we do the deal goto dvla and do paperwork and leave. he takes jeep i take q7 and the 16k. I call the buyer later saying will the finance be cleared tommorow he says the garage just called me up they cant send it for a few days because of money laundering. we start to get a bit panicky cause the q7 we took has finance on it so the next day we goto dvla and say the full story and somehow they gave us back the logbooks of the range rover and the q7 CANCELLING THE FULL DEAL but we have the q7 16 and the logbooks of both cars right now. basically before i sold the car i told him it had a suspension light on it and engine light which needed fixed and the car is sold as seen and he agreed. now i called him and was asking about finance he said iam not clearing the finance until the lights have been fixed and paid for. so he thinks he is keeping us as hostage but what he doesnt know is we have the books. On tuesday after bank holiday we plan to meet him and tell him clear the q7.. if he keeps going on about the lights we will take him there is ur logbook and cash and here is our logbook give us back the range rover. the deal is off. The only problem is ive done a hpi check on the range rover today and there is outstanding finance on it now due to that guy taking it against my car. What the whole point im asking is, how would i be able to get that finance of my jeep? since i bought it cash and had proof and the guy who applied for finance on my jeep has never actually owned it? what would i be able to do? if i take the range rover back, regards.

Bit of a pickle, not sure that having the log book gives you any legal rights in terms of ownership ?
Think I would be considering talking to the police and/or taking some legal advice very quickly as it could well be a scam.
Not sure how much the Q7 was worth but sounds like the deal may have been too good to be true? MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

I think that you will need to seek some sort of legal advice, civil initially then perhaps criminally. This has the potential to go horribly wrong and should not have been manufactured in the first place.

As for the V5, as previously posted, it is NOT proof of ownership, only shows that you are the registered keeper.

Without stating the obvious, you really need to get this sorted ASAP.

16k plus an Audi Q7 for a 2007 sport sounds too good to be true unless the Audi was an early one with moon and back miles.
Does your bank offer free legal advice, if so I'd be on to them ASAP, failing that to rozzers.

Sounds like you've been scammed to me, all this messing about with garages and finance should have rung alarm bells straight away

sounds very fishy and lack of paragraphs didn't help. The logbook means zero in terms of ownership, in fact is says as much on it in big letters. It's just a registration document that's all.

best of luck with sorting it all out Thumbs Up ============

+1. Unpick the deal and then use the Johnny Fresh "just cold cash" method of car sales.

All those swaps and part ex's are for dealers as they are the professionals! I would have wanted proof that the finance on the Q7 was clared before any hand over was done!

The position now is quite tricky as it's your word against his....

This sounds remarkably like a previous member had in Doncaster and I think you need to find out if thr Q7 is kosher it could be stolen on false plates Whistle
If you're near Glasgow I seem to remember Strathclyde police have a specialist team who may help you if you ask? MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

I must admit, I don't understand that DVLA gave you back the log books the following day! I don't mean to question you but is this 100% correct.

If it is then its quite unusual that a Local Area office would do business this way.

Just to confirm guys I know the guy personally and know his home address etc so doubt he would scam me,
My car is a range rover sport revere hsr. That's why he bpaid that price.
I know you guys says logbook is not ownership but the dvla have said that now we have the logbooks through
Everything has been cancelled. Including his plate transfer. If he just pays off the q7 ill be happy enough. Otherwise I'm actually unsure what to do. So I paid pure cash for my range rover last year so I don't think that he could do anything its only the finance I'm worried about. Sorry for lack of paragraphs I'm using my mobile. Thx for help.

a fool and there money are easily parted, not helpfull i realise, but honesty, none of that deal sounded like it could go to plan.

tell him this is your plan Smile give him the q7 back, keep the 16k and report your rrs stolen.

alternativly tell him the boys are coming round and set fire to both cars and the garage.
