I use foam a fair bit, going to be ordering some soon too as autobright have a offer on their magifoam, which is a great foam and clings to the car for longer than some

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

Hi again,

Im quite disappointed after having my first attempt to remove the said scratches using Pooboys SSR-2.5 swirl remover on the scratch. as you can see from the before and after the scratches are still there.

Before:

After:

Now I know its by hand and I haven't polished afterwards but I was hoping for a better result. I tried two applications and whilst it appears that the swirls have reduced a little, the scratch is still evident.

Is this something a mechanical polisher will sort out, am I missing a trick, or is the product not suitable for this, (especially as the bottle says it is for swirl removal)?

Thoughts guys?

How long did you work the polish for? You need to work the abbresives down then the degrade into a finer refining polish the help enhance the finish

Quote:
The reason why it is so good is because it starts out as a medium abrasive, but as the polish is worked the unique abrasive system breaks down into finer and finer tiny particles that eventually become a super fine polish. That means not only does the polish remove moderate to heavy surface imperfections but leaves a lovely high gloss finish.
As with all poorboys products it works well by hand or machine, in sun and shade. Its even wax and silicone free so bodyshop safe!

Maybe 2 minutes by hand. The instructions said the product will turn to a dust when in fact it didn't. It did however seem to disappear and the friction increased to a point that the cloth squeaked, or at least that's the best I can explain. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

I haven't used the product myself but I would say you need to work it longer using a sponge applicator pad

I'M a bit confused Nick

If these are like sponges I would have though the pressure you can apply would be less than by hand with a cloth?

How could these help? Sorry if a dumb question but feeling my way a little here mate. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

I don't know the answer to that one,

it's not all about rubbing as hard as you can though, medium to firm pressure and time will let the product do the work, the sponge keeps the polish on the surface and won't inflict damage in its own right, a cloth could I guess

My DA polishing pads are foam, dense cutting and the gradually get softer as they go up the range to ultra finish pads

A really good read and very helpful indeed. Thank you.

The bottom line is that when working by hand, scratches should be masked/filled rather than polished out. To remove scratches you need a mechanical polisher. So for my situation I should buy a foam applicator and try and get a filler polish to do the job.

Just bought the following. Black hole for repeat masking of marks that are more than swirls but where I don't have a polishing machine.

Product: PoorBoys - Black Hole

Quantity: 1
Product Code: POO821
Price: £12.95

Product: Sonus SFX Pro Applicators Pkg/2
