I have 19" m+s tyres for winter and use the original 20" conti as summer tyres as they are intended because others on here advised 20s are lethal in poor weather

Been on 22s for 4 winters and no drama at all. Even made it up the steep hill to the golf club last winter when Audi' 4x4s X5s were being abandoned half way up. Got some snow socks for this year!! Unstopable... |

Drove out of this after just clearing windscreen & front side windows without any drama. 1ft of snow & a moderate slope, no problems on bog standard road tyres (17" Conti ISTR).

+1 We have a Volvo XC90 (yes I know its not a RRS) which ran through the two bad snows of last year and year before on the standard contis it came with. Never even the slightest hint of getting stuck in fact we were taking all the uncleared back road routes to avoid the gridlocked cleared routes around where we live. I think the need for winter tyres is grossly overstated (having said all that I've just put my winter wheels on the RRS ) Have i got the busted controller?!?!!? 2009 RRS TDV8 Santorini Black Ivory / Anigre Privacy DVD & TV Side Steps |

Why risk it? Winter tyres perform far better in cold conditions, not just snow and ice and you should be able to find a set already on wheels for way less than a dealer. Trawl EBay and keep an eye on the for sale bits on here..
