England 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Buckingham Blue
"Suspension will raise once system cooled"

I received this message on the drivers display yesterday whilst pulling away after having it in access suspension mode:
"Suspension will raise once system cooled"
So I gave it over night to 'cool down' and have started and driven this morning but suspension still in 'access' mode and the 4x4 info screen says "raising".

What is wrong and what to do????

Got in today and turned engine on, height button lights illuminated were the up arrow and the off road height setting aswell as the middle setting, the 4x4 info screen said access level.
I let the car run for a bit and then pressed the up arrow, the message on the drivers display read
"vehicle raising slowly"
After about a minute the 4x4 info screen said standard and the buttons went back to normal, the car had risen to standard height and all has been fine today, I haven't attempted to lower it again though.
Any ideas??? 2005 (55) RRS 4.2 V8 S/C Buckingham Blue

You may have a problem (puncture) with one of the air bag suspension units which has been causing the compressor to work overtime to keep the car level. Over time, this can cause the pump to burn-out due to overheating. I has this problem with my old disco 2 and had to replace a suspension airbag as well as the compressor..

Cheers,
J

As Jmac says - the compressor is only rated for intermittant use rather than constant duty and so if it's working too hard it will get hot and there's a thermal cut-off switch built in to protect the equipment.

It is also not unknown for the compressor relay to stick, thereby running the compressor needlessly. As noted above, extended use will result in premature failure of the unit.

The experience of this fault air suspension compressor (possibly: dryer, silencer) At a given fault changing the compressor with a silencer. Check the muffler can be by turning off the inlet tube (inlet air to compressor). Often become worthless dryer. The forum Discovery 3 describes the procedures for "witchcraft" of the compressor.
