United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Siberianfox,

We have been through this process and I totally understand your frustration. If it is the same Sarah at LR don't hold your breath. For us she was very helpful to start with but nothing happened despite the well intentioned advice - it came down to LR telling us they had no contract with us and we could only talk to the dealer who supplied the car. LR customer services do seem pretty powerless.

After many calls with 'Sarah' nothing was done and she (in my view) started avoiding our calls. We then got some very good advice to bring in our household insurers - we have a very good household insurer (not cheap) which covered us for legal litigation costs. We bought them in and having assessed the case agreed to step in and provide legal help to pursue the dealer / LR. This worked a treat and the dealer / LR (I say both because any return relies on LR and the dealer sharing the financial burden of the return and, by demonstrating intent and ability to fund lawyers to pursue them, the two parties were forced to talk and find a solution which they were reluctant to do before we went nuclear) found a solution.

The settlement was not ideal - our early (Aug 09 production) MY10 TDV8 which had many, many recurring faults (and bits missing!), due to manufacturing errors and the dealer lacking support or expertise to find the source problems, was returned after ten months of ownership but by the time dealer / LR agreed to the return the TDV8 had gone out of production so we had to settle for a new, but identically spec'd TDV6 which we have regretted and resented ever since. The replacement car on paper cost more than the TDV8 - due to price increases and the cost of adding the extras to the TDV6 at the time (paddles, dynamic response etc) but the cash settlement offered was much less and so we decided to take the car rather than the cash loss. But the 3.0 TDV6 engine is a poor swap for the 3.6 TDV8 and we have felt resentment to LR ever since.

So my advice is decide what you want from the dealer - anticipate cash maybe less than the offer of a new car and then pursue them with real intent. Letters and calls with customer services ultimately got us nowhere - only by showing real intent and funding to take them down a legal process did we have any luck.

Its sad you get this s**t for £60k of cash. In the meantime I have driven a 4.2 Q7 and think it is great (forget the 3.0) and it has 7 seats for ferrying the kids and their friends around. Granted, it is not as good looking as the RRS but the build quality is in a different league. We will never buy another LR again (and have been a LR customer since 2002).

Good luck with whatever you decide

Singe
