Car wouldn't start ??

Hi all, Ive recently (10 days ago) bought a RRS 2.7 HSE 2007, on Sunday she started up fine, I travalled no more than 4 miles and turned her off. 1 hour later she wouldnt start, the lights came on the dash but there wasnt enough umph to turn her over. I eventually got a jump start off a friend and she fired first time. I've taken her back to the garage I bought her from to be checked over. I checked the battery that was fine but the alternator was only putting out 12.7 volts @ idle. Has anyone got any ideas?? as I'm absolutely upset, gutted and angry. Cheers.

Hi there and welcome!
No need to be worried, but your disappointment is totally understandable. SiberianFox just had a similar problem, I'm sure she'll come along and share her info with you. As far as I know some people report a similar problem sometimes, and it always gets fixed in the end. So do not worry!!! Vadim A.

Hey There and welcome to the forum !!!
I have indeed have a problem like this but it turns out that it was a faulty connection on the battery. Apparently quite a few of the new models and lots of older models have problems with the battery connections not being on properly.

Hope you get it sorted. However I would make sure that you have a warranty on the car. You can get these aftermarket if it already hasn't come with one. I wouldn't dare run the car without that as a backup.

So welcome to the forum and feel free to post some pictures of your new purchase! Smile

Welcome x600g
12.7 volts is low, should be around 13.8. Firstly check the battery connections, loosen, use force to push them fully down then tighten. Also when checking the battery voltage, ensure you slightly rev above 2000 rpm. You should have 13.8 then allow to idle, the voltage should still be the same.
Hope this helps

Hello, sorry for the delay with the solution to my problem but a last minute holiday came first Very Happy Wink The garage I bought it from ran some tests but got some weird results. One minute the battery was fine then it was goosed!!, They decided to let a battery and alternator specialist have a look and it turns out that the battery had got a cell breaking down intermittently.. So a new battery is on and fingers crossed she's started every time.
