A mate of mine had a TVR that chucked flames out the back and the garage said that was normal.

Could it not just be a build up of soot burning off from the catalytic converter??

Yes and no. Basicly I called in the dealers on my way back this afternoon. Spoke to one of the workshop guys and told him what I was seeing and the speed I was doing etc... He told me it was just as I thought, build up of soot that as the air flow increases and the temperature heats up it basily burns off. I didn't have to promp him or anything so the fella knew what he was talking about!! Which gives me a little faith in the dealers, and the assurance that it is nothing to worry about. Basicly he said the exhaust system was like the chimney in your house, and when your caining it down the road, it's the same as having the chimney swept. Suppose its fairly logical when you think about it, but unsettling if you suddenly see glowing ash in the rear view mirror. 08MY HSE 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway Grey, Twisted performance cat back... and shed loads of extras!!! |
