Why put it into off-road mode first? Doesn't that just mean the jack has to extend even further? WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

I just thought this is normal procedure before jacking, remember reading something stating that you had to do this first |

Cos if you don't you'll never get the wheels off the ground until you've raised the suspension to offroad height with the jack by which time it's unlikely the jack will have any lift left.

Took mine into Kwik-Fit recently to have a slow puncture looked at and he asked me to lock it into access height???? Should I smack him in the head next time, and tell him not to be so stupid? I just assumed they knew what they were doing. Iknow, Iknow, Kwik-Fit knowing what there doing is an oxymoron.

Surely the jack only has the same maximum lift height irrespective of how the car gets to offroad height? ![]() Discovery Series II Td5 GS::Discovery 3 TDV6 S::Freelander 2 TD4 XS::Freelander 2 TD4 SE ![]() |

Correct but I think Josh means you'd know that without having to lift the vehicle full travel to find out - issue with some trolley jacks, obv the LR jack travels far enough but it is certainly easier to get to height without the load on... |

Actually, thinking about it, what Kwikfit said would seem to make more sense; with the car locked at access height surely you wouldn't have to jack the chassis as high before the wheels were clear of the ground (assuming they don't just "dangle"). You might have a jack that wouldn't be able to lift the car when the suspension was fully extended, but it should be able to if in access mode.

No - i think locking is only an electronic and temporary overide - they would mechanically fall under gravity IIRC |
