Dealer picked mine up a few years ago for a service so I got it out of garage and brought it round front. In jumped LR driver and off he went. I then put my hand in pocket for front door key and pulled out smart key

That's a real flaw from JLR. I had keyless on my BMW and it would know if the key wasn't in the car and it would alert you both audibly and via the dashboard displays. |

MY13 gives a warning when the engine is on but the key isn't in the car. Never tried driving off without the key though. Real big flaw if it warns but allows the car to be driven anyway |

I've just tried mine - started with key and then got out and left key in garage. Jumped back in car and it bonged once and displayed message about smart key if I bothered to look as I closed the door but allowed me to drive away without key and message vanished

Yup, just tried mine too. Started the car, left the key on my driveway and drove off. "Key not found" message disappeared but the red triangle light stayed on. Drove a 100 or so yards before returning home without any issues (except the warning light as mentioned). Not great from security as well as convenience point of view. |
