Very comprehensive, thanks for saving our members some time! Good pics and illustrations.

Not sure if I will do it though, I quite like the contrast of the orange side markers.

Question: In the US, are the side markers on the doors illuminated with the sidelights all the time or do they only operate with the indicators? L319 D4 HSE

The plastic of that peice just looks cheap, almost too white or "snowed". I bet it would look good on a white RRS though.

The side markers in the US only operate with the indicators... they are not constantly lit with the sidelights...

Ordered a pair of E39 repeaters today - think I'll have a go at the mod [ something to do to keep me busy ]

Also got that firm in Nuneaton ( the car styling studio ) looking into the matter as well.

Will post later when I've mastered it - or - made a complete hash of it Embarassed

UPDATE

Late on Sunday night I started the task - filed one down by hand as prev described - a few tweaks here and there and now got one fitted perfectly Very Happy I will do the other tonight & use a Dremel power tool. I have also looked into different types of bulbs for this. The clear lenses I have fitted came with straight replacement amber bulbs, but I will poosibly have some LED ones to try later. So far so good, will post more details/pics ASAP.

FINISHED

Its amazing what the right tool for job can do ( said the tart to the vicar ) aka Sunday night fumbling around with various sanding appliances trying to recreate the steps for modding a side repeater. Yet tonight armed with 1 Dremmel mini power tool & hey presto 10 mins/job done. PERFECT.

All I can say is there are probably many suppliers of the BMW E39 side repeater - but should all be of similar shape/design at the rear. If you follow the instructions carefully as detailed by antics22 you too should have no problems. BUT it is so much easier with a good sanding device. The main task is to sand both sides flat - trim the end opposite the sprung end & rebate to allow for location of body panel ( wing ). I have fitted this particular style lens.............

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You do have the option of a crystal clear one.. as below..

I'm not too sure which will look best so I may try these out as well & post the results in a few days time.

So far it has cost £20 to source the lens from ebay.

Here They Are ( at last )

They were very easy to fit - just a bit of sanding made easy with the DREMEL , I bought them off ebay for £20 inc the amber bulbs. antics22 instructions are pretty good - you just have to play around/sand them yourself to get the feel for what needs to be done. Also a good stanley knife helps to put the little notches in opposite end to spring.

My only comment is that it does not look like it fills the space left behind by the amber one.

Anyone wanting to buy them can also look at euro car parts website, they sell them.

Plus carriage/vat Total cost £20.88

I would agree they are fractionally smaller in length - but I thought I would have a go at the conversion ( still have the originals ). I am also waiting delivery of Crystal Clear lenses to try out - again will post details when done. I dont suppose it will be too long before someone launches a specific item for the task. But hey ho...... keeps me busy Wink

United States 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Buckingham Blue

How do you guys think smoked markers would look on a Buckingham Blue RRS?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-03-BMW-E...8095QQrdZ1

Also the Euro Crystal Clear ones above may look better with Antics22's amber tail lamp mod. Both leave the Euro clear look. Take a look at the item:

For now, i ordered the standard e39 ones, but am considering doing the smoked or Euro mod. What are your guys thoughts?
